Pulsara's Prehospital Alerting Package among 30 innovative new products for emergency medical services and prehospital care.

Bozeman, MT, June 6, 2017 -- Pulsara and JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services) are proud to announce the selection of Pulsara’s Prehospital Alerting Package as a Hot Product from the JEMS EMS Today Conference & Exposition, which was held February 23–25 in Salt Lake City.

Pulsara was selected after a team of eight judges consisting of emergency medical services (EMS) product specialists, physicians, educators, managers and paramedics reviewed a host of products designed to not only improve the ability to deliver optimal emergency medical care to sick and injured patients, but also allow EMS agencies to do it safely, more efficiently and with enhanced comfort for the patient.

Pulsara was featured last week in a news article on Australian news site, The Courier after Ballarat Base Hospital, Pulsara's second international hospital client, began a pilot of the platform. Ballarat will leverage Pulsara to receive real-time information about a patient’s condition from local paramedics to get the entire emergency department, cardiac, neurology and other specialists and departments on the same page.

Using the Pulsara app, a Cincinnati-area health care system significantly cut down its time to treatment for cardiac cases.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare, in Edgewood, Kentucky, decreased the time to treat critical heart attack patients by 30 percent.

Edgewood, KY – Mar. 30, 2017 – In the past year, St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, Kentucky, significantly decreased the time-to-treatment for heart attack patients, following an effort by stakeholders from every part of the care team to collaborate and improve processes that speed up care. This improvement was due also in part to the use of a mobile app, Pulsara, which puts timely, clear information in the hands of everyone responsible for caring for the patient, both inside and outside of the hospital.

For patients who arrived at St. Elizabeth Edgewood via ambulance, the average time from first medical contact (FMC) — defined as the moment emergency medical services (EMS) first arrives at the patient’s side — to the administration of artery-opening treatment in the hospital dropped 30 percent, from 103 minutes in the first quarter of 2016 to 72 minutes in January 2017. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends aiming for a time-to-treatment of less than 90 minutes because it has been associated with better outcomes for heart attack patients.

Hosted by the Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS) and sponsored by Physio-Control, a part of Stryker Corporation, the EMS10 awards recognize ten individuals who made significant innovative contributions in EMS in the previous year. Over 40 nominations were considered for this year’s award.

A panel of EMS professionals selected the ten distinguished winners, who “each displayed initiative, creative thinking, action-orientation and a desire to positively impact EMS, patients, and their communities,” according to JEMS.

[Bozeman, MT] — Mar. 14, 2017 —Duke University School of Medicine researchers found that patients with stroke received faster treatment when emergency medical services (EMS) activated the stroke team from the field than patients who presented by other methods of arrival.

The researchers conducted a retrospective analysis of 12 major medical centers that used Pulsara’s Stop Stroke, a mobile application that allows EMS transporting a stroke patient to notify emergency department staff and stroke specialists with the tap of a button on a smart phone. Using data from March 2013 to May 2016, they found cases activated by EMS in the field resulted in significant reductions in door-to-CT scan and door-to-needle times as well as an increased likelihood of meeting door-to-needle goal when compared to cases activated in the emergency department.

Hospital physicians and nurses know all too well that time can make a difference when treating patients suffering from a heart attack or stroke. Unfortunately, gaps in communication between emergency responders and hospital staff is a persistent and common problem and can slow down the process of getting accurate, pertinent patient information from the field, such as the emergency medical technicians and paramedics on the scene, to the hospital staff.

To tackle these challenges, hospitals from two different health systems have partnered with each other and with a dozen local emergency medical services (EMS) agencies to use mobile technology to coordinate their care teams to accelerate time to treatment for critical care patients and to provide better care for stroke and heart attack patients.

About a week and a half ago, we broke the news that Pulsara had been selected to receive the Healthcare Informatics Interoperability award for 2017, which was accepted by Pulsara CEO Dr. James Woodson last week at the HIMSS conference in Orlando. New study examines how Pulsara, an app used by paramedics, emergency rooms and stroke teams, can reduce the time it takes for a hospital to deliver clot-busting drugs to stroke patients.

Currently in the United States, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and each of those cases relies on getting treatment as fast as possible in order to assure best chances for recovery. Expediting care for these critical patients requires smooth communication between first responders in the field, the emergency room staff, and the specialty stroke team. Unfortunately, this delicate relay is not always well executed, as care teams are patching together archaic technologies such as pagers, faxes, emails, call lists, and other communication methods that do not integrate.

The healthcare technology company ESO is hosting the WAVE 2016 conference November 17-18 in Austin, TX to provide a venue to discuss healthcare interoperability, trends, data management, and the future of the healthcare industry. The company has invited Pulsara's founder and CEO, Dr. James Woodson, to speak at WAVE 2016. The Emergency Physician-turned-CEO will present about where healthcare communications and data to intersect.

A local news station in Fort Lauderdale, FL reported yesterday that the care teams of Memorial Healthcare System used innovative care coordination strategies on a recent case, and made a "life-saving difference" for their stroke patient, Armand Kaladi.

Pulsara announced today the release of their prehospital alerting package, which is currently offered at no cost to all EMS agencies and hospitals in the United States. This promotion will last until December 31, 2017 for hospitals, and the company has no plans to charge EMS for the package.

With the general patient feature of the prehospital package, EMS can now alert the hospital for any and all cases. When a medic arrives on scene, she can enter as many or as few patient stats as she wishes, can upload a secure image of an ECG or anything else she chooses, and the EMS team’s distance and ETA to the hospital is auto-calculated using the built in GPS on any Android or iOS device. The hospital team at the ED receives the alert and can send instant messages back to the EMS team via Pulsara’s secure chat feature.

Two Colorado Springs health systems have partnered with more than a dozen local emergency medical services agencies to implement a mobile app to provide faster, better care to patients suffering from potentially devastating conditions.

When someone suffers a stroke in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a team of healthcare providers springs into action. First responders from local fire departments and American Medical Response (AMR) provide initial care and also quickly notify the hospital. The hospital emergency department prepares to receive the patient and deliver the immediate care required when the patient arrives. And the stroke team, a specialized group of doctors and nurses, mobilizes to treat and reverse the cause of the stroke as soon as possible.

Pulsara announced last week that app version 4.7 is live and encouraged all users to update to the new version. The update includes several key new functionalities for all user types. According to the announcement, highlights for all users include the following:
