Pulsara Announces Release of Free Prehospital Package with General Patient Feature [Press Release]

By Team Pulsara on Oct 05, 2016

Bozeman, MT – October 5, 2016

Pulsara announced today the release of their prehospital alerting package, which is currently offered at no cost to all EMS agencies and hospitals in the United States. This promotion will last until December 31, 2017 for hospitals, and the company has no plans to charge EMS for the package.

With the general patient feature of the prehospital package, EMS can now alert the hospital for any and all cases. When a medic arrives on scene, she can enter as many or as few patient stats as she wishes, can upload a secure image of an ECG or anything else she chooses, and the EMS team’s distance and ETA to the hospital is auto-calculated using the built in GPS on any Android or iOS device. The hospital team at the ED receives the alert and can send instant messages back to the EMS team via Pulsara’s secure chat feature.

Colorado Springs Coordinates Care Between Multiple Heath Systems Using Mobile Technology [Press Release]

By Team Pulsara on Sep 20, 2016

Two Colorado Springs health systems have partnered with more than a dozen local emergency medical services agencies to implement a mobile app to provide faster, better care to patients suffering from potentially devastating conditions.

When someone suffers a stroke in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a team of healthcare providers springs into action. First responders from local fire departments and American Medical Response (AMR) provide initial care and also quickly notify the hospital. The hospital emergency department prepares to receive the patient and deliver the immediate care required when the patient arrives. And the stroke team, a specialized group of doctors and nurses, mobilizes to treat and reverse the cause of the stroke as soon as possible.

I’m a lot of things: a mom, a wife, a Chief Operating Officer … but one of my longest-standing titles is that of swimmer. I started competing in swimming at age 6 and continued on through Division 1 in college. And while I no longer compete, swimming is still a passion of mine, and my favorite way to exercise. So it’s no surprise that I love watching the Summer Olympics. In addition to the network coverage, it was especially fun to see former teammates and coaches broadcasting TV color commentary and posting behind-the-scenes photos with Michael Phelps and other medal winners.

Pulsara Featured in Senators' Article on Entrepreneurship [Press Release]

By Team Pulsara on Aug 11, 2016

August 4th marked the 4th Annual Startup Day Across America, which focused on the importance of entrepreneurs and startup companies in economic prosperity and advancement of culture and technology. The event both raises awareness of impactful new businesses across the country, and seeks to promote ways of ensuring success for these new companies.

Recently Senators Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.), co-authored an article which was published on the national news and politics website, The Hill. The senators pointed out that startup culture and innovation is no longer limited to hubs like Silicon Valley, but rather are increasingly found in local communities throughout the United States. Among many Michigan and Montana startup companies highlighted, the article also featured Bozeman-based Pulsara and their efforts to improve patient outcomes through simplified communication between EMS and hospital staff.

Pulsara Featured in EMS World Magazine as Key Step for Transforming Stroke Care [Press Release]

By Team Pulsara on Aug 02, 2016

The August issue of the EMS World Magazine features a photo of three key players who are leading the transformation of stroke care, particularly with regards to Large Vessel Occlusions (LVO). This transformation is crucial to improve patient outcomes by getting stroke patients the treatment they need in as little time as possible - especially since 2 million brain cells die each minute a patient is having a stroke. Part of this effort includes establishing regional systems of care, which help first responders and other members of the care team decide which facility a patient should go to for the best treatment; currently many patients are initially brought to hospitals that are not equipped to deliver the level of stroke care needed and must then be transferred. In fact, according to the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, 80% of serious medical errors involve miscommunication between caregivers when patients are being transferred.

First Responder Health and Fitness: Who’s The Patient Now?

By Team Pulsara on Jun 14, 2016

EDITOR'S NOTE: Special thanks to Wes Gilbert for writing today's blog post. You can connect with him on LinkedIn.

I have been honored and privileged to spend 10 years of my life as a Firefighter and Paramedic. The risks and sacrifices were vast, but the reward was oftentimes overwhelming. From the carnage of twisted steel from entangled vehicles on a rainy interstate highway to seeing a patient who experienced a major stroke walk out of the hospital with little to no lasting deficiencies, I never ceased to be amazed at what the human body was capable of overcoming.

And while seeing our patients get healthy again never stops being one of the best feelings in the world, a bleak juxtoposition became apparent to me when looking at the health of the first responders caring for these patients. I began to notice that we had a serious epidemic on our hands. It appeared that more and more first responders were in poor health, and it was getting worse all the time. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons that I began to pay more attention to this was because I was right there in the mix: I was 35 pounds overweight, had stage 1 hypertension, lipid panel values that were terrible, and nutrition habits that would make even the best competitive eater shake his finger at me. And to make matters worse, I was only 30 years old! Something had to change and fast, or I was going to find myself riding backwards on a bed in the back of a big box that my law enforcement brethren referred to as “The Bus.” I could hear myself screaming internally “Who’s the patient NOW, buddy?”

As a soon-to-be graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, I am coming to realize what life will be like after school. It's crazy to think that I have been in school for sixteen straight years and will soon suddenly be dropped off on the curb of society. Well, not exactly dropped off, I hope it will be more graceful than that. Senior year has been quite the journey, and my time at Pulsara has eased me into the "real world," teaching me about software development, business, and teamwork.

Hospital, Tech Company, or Other - Why Contracts are a Crucial First Step

“Good fences make good neighbors” is a phrase that applicable in so many situations - even in drawing up business contracts.  Before you build that business (be it a tech company like Pulsara, a hospital, or even a bakery), you MUST go ahead and build a strong foundation and a good fence so everybody knows the agreed upon boundaries should a dispute arise.

The importance of maintaining company culture, teamwork & recognition in a telecommuting, multi-state company.

As a Human Resources professional, I constantly have company culture and employee engagement in the forefront of my brain. Are we doing enough to make sure our employees love working here? Do they feel engaged and included in the team?

In a more traditional business setup with brick and mortar locations and employees working 8:00a-5:00pm in office, it is often easier to gauge these crucial metrics as the ability to physically get ‘a feel’ for the energy is possible in such a setting. And though perhaps a bit more effortful, in a company with several remote employees across many states, it is still very possible to not only maintain, but also foster a strong company culture full of employees that truly feel like part of the team.
