By using the Pulsara platform, Valley Health System is simplifying communications between EMS and the critical care teams within the hospital to provide faster case times and better patient outcomes.
Within emergency medicine, patient outcomes depend largely on the time in which the case can be stopped. This is particularly true of strokes and heart attacks. Having as short a case time as possible for these emergent conditions depends upon the care team’s ability to quickly and efficiently communicate with one another in order to get the patient to the right resources without wasting any time. Unfortunately, outdated processes that rely on archaic technologies often result in communication lapses that result in longer case times.
Modern technology such as smart devices have continued to play an increasing role in healthcare, and Valley Health System has recently embraced this trend with the implementation of Pulsara - an innovative healthcare communications tool that runs on any smart device. This technology enables Valley Health to communicate more easily with the paramedics in the field as well as within their own care teams to improve patient care.
“Since implementing Pulsara, our case times have dropped dramatically, which eliminates frustrations for the care team and ultimately provides better quality of life for our patients,” said Kayla Roberts, RT(R)(CI) “We’ve been waiting for something like this in healthcare since the invention of the smartphone. It makes no sense that I can track a pizza delivery or an Uber right from my phone, but when it comes to coordinating care, we are still in the dark ages.”
Providing the best quality of services at high value to patients is a goal which relies on reducing hospital costs. Valley Health is meeting this goal by using the technology to eliminate false activations of the care teams as well as reduce case times, which results in reduced length of stay and improved recovery for patients.
“As an emergency physician myself, I understand exactly how frustrating it can be when our teams are working their absolute hardest yet they still fall short of their goals and end up wasting time and money,” said James Woodson, Emergency Department physician and CEO of Pulsara. “Eliminating the wasteful time drains and catching the industry up to modernity allow care teams to provide the ultimate standard of care for their patients, who then have shorter recovery times and improved quality of life. And that’s why we do what we do.”
